International travel medical insurance is a benefit provided to university travelers while outside of the U.S. at no additional cost. Temple faculty or staff traveling for university affiliated purposes must have an approved Pre-Travel Application on file for coverage and to comply with the International Travel Policy.

Students traveling on their own for university affiliated purposes must follow the international travel approval process. Students participating on a study abroad program or other Temple organized travel will be enrolled by their program.

Spouses and dependents

  • Temple travel benefits extend to legal spouses and dependent children traveling with current faculty and staff on Temple affiliated travel, provided that the travel itineraries for legal spouses and/or dependents are registered with Healix International. Contact Global Health, Safety and Security at for more information about registering spouses or dependents.

Please note, insurance coverage is not extended to travel that is not Temple-affiliated travel including:

  • vacation;

  • personal travel beyond three days before or after Temple-affiliated travel;

  • un-approved group travel organized by students; and,

  • travel promoted at Temple University that is not approved, affiliated travel.

If you are planning to study abroad or travel in the country of your permanent residence, please contact Global Health, Safety and Security at . Expenses incurred for medical services or treatment in an insured’s country of permanent residence is excluded under the coverage of the international travel medical insurance

Purchasing Additional Coverage

If you plan to travel abroad on non-affiliated Temple travel, including travel prior to or after TU travel, we strongly recommended purchasing international travel medical insurance coverage for your personal travel dates. It is advisable to include benefits for emergency evacuation/repatriation and repatriation of remains, which are typically not covered by U.S. health insurance policies. Temple University cannot recommend or guarantee the services of any specific travel insurance provider.
