Effective January 1, 2020, any student (graduate, professional, or undergraduate) traveling on Temple Affiliated Travel must obtain approval from Risk Management's Global Health, Safety, and Security (GHSS) team before departure. Registration can vary depending on if you are traveling as part of an organized group or on your own. Read below for more details. 

Traveling with a Group

Students traveling as part of a group should consult with the administrative offices organizing their travel, as it is the administrative office or program leader’s responsibility to apply for approval. Once approval has been granted, students will be expected to complete a travel registration profile with GHSS. 

Note: For groups of five or less students, students will follow the guidance under "Traveling on Your Own".

Traveling on Your Own

Any individual professional, graduate, or undergraduate student traveling on their own for Temple University affiliated purposes may request approval to travel internationally.  

Apply for Approval

Requests for approval are submitted online through the Individual Student International Travel Approval Form. Requests are completed and reviewed on a rolling basis and should be submitted between 60 and 45 days before travel dates. Late submissions may not be accommodated.  

  • Submissions for approval will need to include the following: 

  • Description of Individual Itinerary & Activities 

  • Health and Safety Preparedness 

  • Important Contacts for Travelers to Know 

  • Approval from Division to Travel 

Note: Some schools and colleges may require Graduate Students to complete a Pre-Travel Application in TU Portal to receive approval for funding their travel. This approval process does not supersede the GHSS approval. For Graduate students who submit and receive approval for funding through the Pre-Travel Application, GHSS can use this approval in lieu of the Approval from Division to Travel referenced above. Register Your Travel

Complete Required Temple Forms: 

  • After submitting a request for approval, student’s travel information will be reviewed by Risk Management's GHSS team. Depending upon the health conditions or security assessment in the proposed location, requests may also be reviewed by the Elevated/High Risk Committee.  All submissions will receive notification electronically about the status of their application. 

  • Should travel be approved, students must submit additional information to finalize their registration within one month of their departure date. 

Register your Travel with TU’s Global Assistance Provider: 

  • Approved travel booked through Concur and/or World Travel is automatically registered with TU’s Global Assistance Provider. Travelers with travel booked outside of Concur and/or World Travel will be provided instructions for registering their travel with TU’s Global Assistance Provider.  

Complete Online Health & Safety Training 

  • After receiving approval, students will be enrolled in an online international health and safety training in Canvas. The training must be completed within one month of the student’s departure date.
